Acrylic Standees Assembly

May 13, 2026Design

Acrylic components are a popular upgrade from cardboard. They offer a clean, modern look, strong durability, and consistent print quality. Acrylic is commonly used for standees, tokens, markers, and layered components where transparency or a premium finish adds value. It is a versatile material that works well across many game styles, from simple upgrades to more visually driven designs.

Protective Film

All acrylic components are covered with a protective film during production. This prevents scratches during manufacturing and transport. The film is transparent, so players often do not realize it is there.

If the film is not removed before assembly, it creates problems. Acrylic standees are designed with tight tolerances. The extra thickness from the film can cause:

  • Difficulty inserting the standee into the base
  • Excessive force during assembly
  • Cracking or damage to the standee or base

What to Include in Your Game

We recommend adding a short instruction in the rulebook or as a separate insert: please remove the protective film from either and/or both sides of all acrylic components before assembly. This small note prevents a lot of avoidable damage.

Further guidance and assembly tips that we recommend including in the rulebook or elsewhere in the game include:

Assembly Tips

Check both sides of the acrylic for protective film

Use a fingernail or a piece of tape to lift and peel it off

Remove the film first before assembling

Fit and Orientation

Acrylic parts are laser cut, which can create a slight taper on the edges.

If the fit feels tight:

  • Try inserting from the opposite side
  • Flip the standee and try again

Do not force the fit.
